Namibia and China Deepen Economic Partnership as Nandi-Ndaitwah Meets Li Qiang in Beijing

Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has held talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, as her first state visit to China focuses on expanding trade, investment and cooperation in strategic sectors. The meeting marked the final stage of Nandi-Ndaitwah’s week-long visit, aimed at strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Namibia and China. Premier Li called for closer alignment between the two countries’ development plans and urged both sides to expand bilateral trade while deepening cooperation in infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and emerging industries.

China also expressed interest in increasing imports of high-quality agricultural and fishery products from Namibia, encouraging the southern African nation to make greater use of Beijing’s zero-tariff trade policy for eligible exports. During the visit, President Nandi-Ndaitwah also travelled to China’s Guangdong and Sichuan provinces, where discussions focused on investment opportunities, renewable energy, digital innovation, science and technology. China remains one of Namibia’s largest economic partners. Bilateral trade surpassed US$1.85 billion in 2025, representing an increase of more than one-third compared with the previous year, according to trade figures cited during the visit. The two countries are expected to continue expanding cooperation, particularly in mining, where Namibia’s rich mineral resources and China’s industrial capacity create opportunities for deeper economic ties.
