Ghana has conferred a special honour on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of his global leadership and efforts to enhance India-Africa relations. The award was presented during Modi’s official visit to Accra on Wednesday, July 2, where both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in key development sectors. At a joint press conference, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama praised Modi’s role in fostering South-South cooperation and called for expanded collaboration between the two nations. “India remains a strategic partner to Ghana, and we are eager to build stronger ties in trade, agriculture, renewable energy, digital technology, health, and youth empowerment,” Mahama said.

The leaders announced plans to increase bilateral trade, promote joint ventures in solar and clean energy, and accelerate agricultural technology exchange. Ghana also expressed interest in India’s digital public infrastructure model and its experience with inclusive financial technology. Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Ghana is part of a broader diplomatic tour of Africa and Latin America aimed at deepening India’s engagement with the Global South. He underscored India’s historical ties with Africa and reaffirmed support for capacity building, infrastructure development, and peacekeeping efforts on the continent.
The visit builds on the momentum of previous India-Africa summits and is expected to result in new agreements in education, health, and fintech.
