Denmark’s Queen Mary Begins Three-Day Visit

Denmark’s Queen Mary began a three-day official visit to Kenya on Tuesday night, marking her second trip to Africa in two months after attending a diplomatic reception in Egypt in October. The Queen was welcomed at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi, alongside Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano.

During her stay, Queen Mary will tour conservation projects along Kenya’s coast, including programs protecting endangered species, an area where Denmark has funded long-term wildlife preservation efforts. She is also expected to visit major waste management and circular economy initiatives aimed at helping Kenyan cities transition toward cleaner, more resilient urban environments.

In Nairobi, the Queen will hold meetings at the United Nations Office, where Denmark and Kenya jointly support global climate action and sustainable-development programs. Kenyan officials say the visit will deepen cooperation between the two nations, especially in renewable energy, green innovation, and environmental protection—sectors in which Denmark is one of Kenya’s leading European partners.
