Tinubu Orders Corruption Probe Into Alleged Fake Presidential Council

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the activities of the alleged Presidential Council for the Promotion of Foreign Intervention (PFIPC), describing the organization as fictitious and unauthorized. The Presidency said the council was never created or recognized by the Federal Government of Nigeria and warned the public against dealing with individuals claiming to represent it. The ICPC has been given 30 days to complete its investigation and submit a comprehensive report.

The probe centres on Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who allegedly presented himself as the council’s Director General and is accused of forging appointment letters, official government documents and other credentials to falsely legitimize the organization. Investigators will also examine claims that the forged documents were used to seek official recognition, secure diplomatic support, facilitate visa applications and open bank accounts under the guise of a government-backed institution.

Authorities said the suspect is currently at large. However, Matthew has denied the allegations and maintains that he will defend himself through the courts. President Tinubu has directed all federal ministries, departments and agencies to cooperate fully with investigators, stressing that anyone found guilty of identity theft, document forgery, impersonation or abuse of public office will face prosecution under Nigerian law. The investigation forms part of the government’s broader efforts to combat corruption, fraud and the misuse of public institutions, while protecting the integrity of official government agencies and documents.
