Chad’s military has officially concluded Operation Haskanite, a large-scale offensive launched in November 2024 to combat Boko Haram insurgents. The operation, which aimed to neutralize the extremist group, has been deemed a success, with nearly 300 Boko Haram fighters killed and a significant number of weapons seized.
Army spokesman General Chanane Issaka Achek confirmed the successful outcome of the operation during a press briefing held on February 18, 2025, in N’Djamena. The military offensive, which started on November 7, 2024, was triggered by a deadly Boko Haram attack on Barkaram Island, located in Chad’s Lake Region.
Under the direct supervision of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, Chad’s army executed a series of coordinated land and air assaults, eliminating 297 terrorists and wounding 163 others. The operation also led to the capture of a substantial arsenal of weapons, including 112 individual firearms and five heavy weapons. Among the key figures killed in the operation was Ganaï Djougoun, a prominent Boko Haram leader responsible for a major attack in 2022.

Despite the significant success, the operation came at a cost. Chad reported the loss of 24 soldiers and three civilians, while 37 soldiers and four civilians sustained injuries. General Achek assured the public that most of the injured had recovered, and the military remained focused on securing the region.
With the conclusion of Operation Haskanite, Chad’s military leadership has reinforced its security measures, declaring that Boko Haram no longer holds any strongholds within Chadian territory. The successful operation is seen as a major blow to the insurgent group and marks a key achievement for Chad’s fight against extremism in the region.
The operation is part of Chad’s broader efforts to counter terrorism and ensure stability in the Lake Chad Basin, a region long plagued by insurgent violence.
