Ghana Police Arrest Four Over Threats, Misinformation, and Illegal Weapons Display After Tragic Helicopter Crash

The Ghana Police Service has arrested four people in separate operations linked to death threats, fake news, and illegal firearms possession in the wake of the August 6 helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, that killed eight, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.The m ilitary helicopter had been ferrying an official delegation to Obuasi when it went down. The Ghana Armed Forces have recovered the aircraft’s black boxes, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has declared three days of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast.

Police said Prince Ofori, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwakye were arrested for allegedly issuing death threats and spreading false information about the tragedy online. In a separate operation, social media influencer Daniel Adomako, popularly known as “Sir Obama Pokuase,” was detained for circulating videos of individuals flaunting high-powered weapons believed to be illegally acquired.

The arrests form part of a wider crackdown on criminal activity, misinformation, and the proliferation of illegal arms. Authorities have urged the public to provide credible information to support ongoing investigations and maintain national security.
