Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has once again called for justice for the victims of the 2005 Gambia Massacre, a tragic event in which around 56 West African migrants, mostly Ghanaians, were killed under the orders of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.
During a recent visit to The Gambia, President Mahama reiterated the importance of holding those responsible for the massacre accountable. He urged the international community to provide compensation to the families of the victims and emphasized the need for accountability in order to achieve justice.
Mahama also highlighted the importance of truth and reconciliation in addressing past human rights abuses. He underscored that seeking justice for the massacre victims is a critical step in healing the wounds left by the atrocity.

His appeal comes amid continued efforts by human rights groups and regional organizations to hold Jammeh accountable for the various crimes committed during his presidency. Activists and families of the victims continue to seek justice and closure nearly two decades after the horrific massacre.
The call for justice remains strong as the international community continues to demand accountability for the events that took place under the former Gambian leader’s rule.
