Senegal exported 2.9 million barrels of crude oil in June 2025 from its flagship Sangomar offshore field, reinforcing the country’s emergence as a key player in West Africa’s energy sector. According to the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum, and Mines, the oil was delivered via three cargoes—SAN034, SAN035, and SAN036—and sold on international markets. This brings Senegal’s total crude oil exports for Q2 2025 to 9.63 million barrels, keeping the nation on pace to meet its annual production target of 30.53 million barrels. The data was released as part of Senegal’s commitment to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), emphasizing transparency and accountability in natural resource management.
Production at the Sangomar field, operated by Woodside Energy, has remained stable since the first barrels were extracted in June 2024. The field represents Senegal’s first offshore oil development and is expected to be a cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation. Natural gas exports also gained momentum in June. The Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, located on the maritime border between Senegal and Mauritania, recorded two LNG shipments totaling 0.33 million cubic meters. This followed a 168,426 m³ shipment in May. Meanwhile, domestic production from the Gadiaga onshore gas field contributed 207,737 normal cubic meters (Nm³) in June, raising the second-quarter total to 548,078 Nm³.
Senegalese authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable and transparent resource management, highlighting the importance of responsible energy development as the country becomes increasingly influential in the regional hydrocarbons market.
