Nigerian Afrobeats icon Davido has officially been inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the body responsible for the Grammy Awards. The move gives him a direct voice in deciding winners across the world’s most prestigious music categories. Reflecting on the milestone, Davido called it a turning point for his career and for African music globally.
“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer. Voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and awarded each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting,” he said. Davido’s inclusion comes as part of the Academy’s wider campaign to diversify its membership and boost global representation. In recent years, the Academy has actively welcomed more African artists, recognizing the rising influence of Afrobeats and other African genres on the international stage.
The singer, who has earned multiple Grammy nominations, continues to solidify his role as a global ambassador for Afrobeats. In 2024, he received three nominations, including Best African Music Performance. His most recent nod came in 2025 for Sensational, a collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay, which lost out to Tems’ Love Me Jeje. Music analysts say his new position as a voting member reflects both his growing impact and the Academy’s recognition of Africa’s cultural power in shaping global music trends.
