Aboubacar Diakité, widely known as “Toumba,” has been admitted to intensive care after falling seriously ill at Coyah Central Prison, Guinean authorities confirmed. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office at the Conakry Court of Appeal, Diakité was urgently evacuated on March 23, 2026, to the Almamy Samory Touré Camp Hospital, where he is receiving treatment under close medical supervision. Officials say his condition is being closely monitored and that adequate care is being provided. His hospitalization comes weeks after he was transferred to Coyah prison in February following tensions linked to a security search operation inside the detention facility.
Diakité, a former military officer, was convicted in July 2024 and sentenced to 10 years in prison for crimes against humanity tied to the September 28, 2009 Conakry stadium massacre, in which security forces killed and injured scores of civilians during an opposition rally. He remains one of the most prominent figures held accountable in the long-running case.
