Former Kenyan cabinet minister Raphael Tuju has revealed he went into hiding after suspecting he was being followed, a day after his reported disappearance sparked fears of a possible abduction. Speaking to Citizen TV, Tuju said he noticed an unmarked vehicle trailing him while on his way to a radio interview on Saturday. He took evasive action by changing routes before abandoning his car to avoid being tracked. His vehicle was later found in Karen with hazard lights on, while his phone had been switched off, raising alarm among family members who reported him missing. Police launched an investigation and appealed for information as speculation over his whereabouts grew.
Tuju said his decision not to immediately contact authorities was influenced by concerns over previous cases of abductions in Kenya, describing the incident as distressing for his family. The former minister is currently embroiled in a legal dispute involving his company, Dari Limited, over more than $15 million in alleged unpaid loans. He has challenged recovery efforts in court and previously claimed that security officers entered his property and took control of business premises allegations the government has not publicly addressed. Opposition figures have welcomed his reappearance but renewed concerns about alleged abductions, urging authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure citizens’ safety.
