Mauritania has rejected reports claiming that Malian troops crossed into its territory, clarifying that all observed military movements took place in Mali and did not breach its borders. In a statement, the Mauritanian army said the activity involved routine patrols in border emphasizing that no violation of Mauritania’s sovereignty was recorded. Officials described the reports as inaccurate and warned against the spread of unverified information. The clarification comes at a time of heightened tensions between the two neighboring countries, following recent incidents involving Mauritanian nationals in Mali that have raised diplomatic concerns and public anxiety.

Authorities in Nouakchott called for responsible journalism and urged the public to rely on verified sources, noting that misinformation could further strain relations. They also reaffirmed that Mauritania’s security forces remain fully deployed and vigilant along the shared border. The Mauritania–Mali frontier lies within the volatile Sahel region, where security challenges; including armed group activity, trafficking, and weak state presence continue to pose risks, making coordination and accurate reporting essential for maintaining stability.
