Air Sierra Leone Resumes Operations After 15 Years with Xejet Partnership

Air Sierra Leone has officially resumed operations after more than 15 years of inactivity, marking its highly anticipated return to the skies with a technical partnership with Xejet, a Nigerian domestic airline. Xejet will provide aircraft for the airline’s operations, with the goal of enhancing regional air connectivity between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

The airline’s inaugural flight took off from Freetown and landed at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the long-established carrier. Air Sierra Leone’s Lagos-Freetown route will operate three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, catering to travelers between the two countries.

The inaugural flight carried 36 passengers, and during the event, Air Sierra Leone’s General Manager, Edgard Lacle, emphasized the importance of the relaunch for both the airline and the region. He stated that the resumption of operations would serve as a catalyst for improved regional connectivity, facilitating easier travel and promoting stronger economic ties between Sierra Leone and its neighbors.

“The relaunch of Air Sierra Leone is a key milestone in fostering trade and connectivity between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, two nations with a longstanding partnership,” Lacle said. He highlighted the role of air transport in boosting economic collaboration, tourism, and trade within West Africa.

Emmanuel Iza, CEO of Xejet, also spoke at the event, reflecting on the significance of the partnership. Iza described the relaunch of Air Sierra Leone as a triumph of ambition, determination, and cross-border cooperation. He expressed confidence that the collaboration between Xejet and Air Sierra Leone would provide a reliable and efficient travel option for passengers in the region, while also contributing to the growth of regional aviation.

The resumption of Air Sierra Leone comes at a time when the aviation industry in West Africa is experiencing growth, with several new routes and partnerships being established to enhance connectivity. With this new partnership with Xejet, Air Sierra Leone is poised to play a significant role in revitalizing the airline industry in Sierra Leone and connecting the country to its regional neighbors.
