Chad and Benin have signed a landmark visa exemption agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel freely without visas. The deal was concluded on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York by Chadian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul and his Beninese counterpart, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari.
Beyond easing travel, the two ministers also pledged to strengthen economic ties, boost trade, and enhance cooperation in areas such as security and education. As part of the agreement, Chad will upgrade its consulate in Cotonou to a full embassy, while Benin will open a diplomatic mission in N’Djamena. Until now, relations between the two countries have been represented only at the consular level. The new deal is seen as a major step toward deepening bilateral relations and improving regional integration in West and Central Africa.
