Senegal Hosts High-Level African Security Forum in Dakar to Tackle Stability and Sovereignty Challenges

Senegal has opened the 10th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, bringing together African heads of state, policymakers, and security experts to address the continent’s growing stability and sovereignty challenges. The two-day forum, held at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) in Diamniadio, is themed “Africa facing the challenges of stability, integration and sovereignty: what sustainable solutions?” It focuses on pressing threats including terrorism, armed conflict, climate change, transnational crime, pandemics, and cyber insecurity. On the eve of the forum, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye received Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, who is attending in his capacity as both Head of State and Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani is also among the high-level participants. The agenda features plenary discussions and expert-led workshops on sovereignty, digital governance, resource management, political transitions, regional integration, and collective security. Organizers say the goal is to produce actionable recommendations to strengthen African-led solutions to security and governance issues. The forum is organized by the Centre for Advanced Studies in Defence and Security (CHEDS) and will conclude on Tuesday with a summary of key outcomes and an official closing ceremony.
