Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency Arrests 39 in Nationwide Crackdown on Narcotics

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) of Gambia has arrested 39 individuals, including foreign nationals, in a series of operations targeting illegal drug activities from January 10 to 16, 2025.

Among those arrested, 36 are Gambian nationals, while two Senegalese and one American were also detained during the raids conducted across the country.

During the operations, DLEAG seized substantial quantities of illegal drugs, including cannabis in various forms, hashish, 579 ecstasy pills, and several stones of cocaine.

The agency also reported that several cases related to drug offenses were brought before the courts, including eight cases of narcotics possession and four cases of drug trafficking. Of the eight possession cases, seven resulted in convictions, with one acquittal.

DLEAG continues to press forward with its efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the country.
