Ghana Deepens Diplomatic Ties with Morocco to Boost Regional Cooperation and South-South Partnerships

Ghana and Morocco are strengthening their diplomatic and legislative ties as part of a broader strategy to enhance regional cooperation and South-South collaboration. A high-level Ghanaian parliamentary delegation led by Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Chair of Ghana’s Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, is currently on an official visit to Rabat, Morocco’s capital. During the visit, the delegation held strategic talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Charity Gbedawo, focusing on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, trade, education, and governance collaboration.

Vanderpuije emphasized that the Ghana-Morocco relationship, established in 1961, is rooted in shared values of unity, development, and mutual respect, with both countries prioritizing inter-African cooperation as part of their foreign policy. “This visit reaffirms our commitment to strengthening parliamentary engagement and building institutional partnerships that support economic and political integration across West Africa and North Africa,” Vanderpuije said.

The Ghanaian delegation is expected to meet with various Moroccan stakeholders, including parliamentarians and government officials, to discuss institutional partnerships, youth empowerment, education exchange programs, and infrastructure investment opportunities.

The visit aligns with Ghana’s broader diplomatic push to enhance ties with strategic African partners amid rising geopolitical and economic integration efforts across the continent, including those led by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), headquartered in Accra.
