Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that Georgia is considering establishing a diplomatic presence in Accra as part of efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations. The announcement comes as Ghana and Georgia explore new agreements in education, agriculture, and tourism to deepen their economic and cultural ties.
Ablakwa shared the update after holding discussions with the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Ukraine on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue in India.
Strengthening Ghana-Georgia Relations
According to Ablakwa, both nations are working on formal agreements to enhance cooperation in:
- Education – Potential student exchange programs and academic partnerships.
- Agriculture – Collaborative efforts to improve food security and agribusiness.
- Tourism – Promotion of cultural exchanges and tourism investments.
The possibility of Georgia opening a diplomatic mission in Ghana marks a significant step toward stronger engagement between the two countries.
Ukraine Seeks to Restore Medical Scholarships for Ghanaian Students
Ablakwa also met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, where discussions focused on restoring medical scholarships for Ghanaian students affected by the war, as well as expanding a bilateral educational partnership agreement between the two nations.
Additionally, Ukraine is looking to boost agribusiness initiatives with Ghana as part of its efforts to rebuild its economy. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister reaffirmed the country’s commitment to ending the war with Russia in 2025 and emphasized that Ukraine would not stand in the way of a lasting peace agreement.
Ablakwa Expresses Gratitude
Ablakwa expressed appreciation for the warmth and respect shown by Andrii Sybiha (Ukraine) and Maka Botchorishvili (Georgia) toward Ghana, highlighting the country’s growing diplomatic engagements on the global stage.
As Ghana strengthens its ties with both nations, these discussions signal potential opportunities for educational, economic, and diplomatic cooperation in the near future.
