Ghanaian citizens can now travel visa-free to four new countries as the government steps up efforts to boost the global mobility of its passport holders. The Foreign Ministry announced that Ghana has finalized visa waiver agreements with Colombia, Mozambique, Dominica, and São Tomé and Príncipe—a move aimed at deepening South-South cooperation and expanding travel access for Ghanaians. Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made the announcement on X , adding that this is part of a broader diplomatic strategy by the Mahama administration to enhance Ghana’s passport power. A similar agreement was reached with Morocco in June, and negotiations are ongoing with other countries.
“The Mahama administration is determined to make the Ghanaian passport one of the most valuable and respected travel documents in the world,” Ablakwa stated. These developments follow a July 2025 decision by the United States to limit visa access for several African countries, including Ghana. Under the new U.S. rules, Ghanaian citizens are now eligible only for single-entry visas valid for three months—a sharp downgrade from previous multiple-entry privileges.
