The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking with a series of high-profile arrests and drug seizures across Nigeria. Among those arrested is a 42-year-old Indian national, Ms. Neetu Neetu, who was caught attempting to smuggle 11kg of heroin disguised as chocolates through Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).
Heroin Smuggled in Chocolate Wrappers
Authorities discovered the heroin concealed in 72 factory-sealed wafer wraps following a security check prompted by intelligence reports. The NDLEA confirmed that the narcotics were meant for distribution through an international drug syndicate.

Kano: 50,000 Tramadol Pills Hidden in Gas Cylinder
In a separate operation along the Zaria-Kano highway, NDLEA officers intercepted 45-year-old Michael Ogundele transporting 50,000 Tramadol 225mg pills cleverly hidden inside a 50-litre steel gas cylinder.
Lagos: Cannabis and Hard Drugs Recovered
- Mushin: Two suspects, Olumuyiwa Kolawole and Samod Adisa, were arrested with 67.5kg of cannabis.
- Anifowoshe: A storage facility linked to two fugitives was raided, leading to the seizure of 100.8kg of cannabis.
- Apapa (March 18): Isah Idris was caught with 4.5kg of cannabis, 600g of Tramadol 225mg, and 30 litres of codeine syrup.
- Ikotun (March 18): Yahaya Mohamed was arrested with cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine in varying quantities.
NDLEA’s Ongoing Crackdown on Drug Syndicates
The NDLEA has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks, warning traffickers that law enforcement efforts will not relent. Officials have called for greater international cooperation to disrupt transnational drug supply chains and prevent illicit drugs from reaching communities.
