NDLEA Seizes Over $649,000 in Drugs in Lagos Hotel Raid, Foils Major Trafficking Operations Nationwide

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized drugs worth over $649,000 during a major raid at The Hook Hotel in Lagos, arresting three suspects and confiscating 589 bags of Canadian Loud cannabis weighing 417.3 kilograms. Authorities also impounded multiple assets suspected to have been acquired through drug trafficking, including vehicles, televisions, and refrigerators. The Lagos operation was part of a broader nationwide crackdown. In Jigawa and Kano states, NDLEA agents intercepted over two million opioid pills, including tramadol and pregabalin. In separate busts, shipments containing cocaine, pentazocine, and bromazepam intended for smuggling to Saudi Arabia and Canada were seized.

At the Seme border, three Ghanaian women were apprehended with nearly five kilograms of cannabis, while in Kano, a 60-year-old woman was arrested with 5.6 kilograms of skunk cannabis and authorities confiscated 100 liters of codeine syrup. In Edo State, NDLEA officers destroyed nearly four tons of cannabis cultivated on two illegal farms and arrested three individuals connected to the operations.

Meanwhile, the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative continued outreach campaigns across the country. NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the efforts of operatives, emphasizing the agency’s unwavering commitment to reducing both the supply and demand for illicit drugs throughout Nigeria. The NDLEA’s recent successes highlight growing efforts to dismantle major drug networks and block international trafficking routes ahead of the peak travel season.
