Senegal has received 15 buses and security equipment donated by Qatar to support preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which are scheduled to open on October 31. The donation is part of Qatar’s initiative to share its experience in hosting major international sporting events with other countries. Qatar hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has also staged the AFC Asian Cup and Formula 1 Grand Prix races. The country is preparing to host the Asian Games in 2030. Ibrahima Wade, general coordinator of the Dakar 2026 organizing committee, said the contribution would strengthen Senegal’s capacity to stage major events by improving transport, supporting security operations and helping develop local expertise.

The buses are expected to support mobility during the Games, while the security equipment will contribute to preparations for managing the international sporting event. Dakar 2026 will be the first Olympic event hosted in Africa, marking a historic milestone for the continent’s sporting industry. The two-week competition will feature 25 sports at venues across Dakar and other locations in Senegal. Athletes aged between 15 and 18 are expected to participate, with more than 200 countries and territories represented. The Qatari donation highlights international cooperation ahead of the Games, as Senegal prepares to welcome young athletes, officials and visitors from around the world.
