Six New Members Elected to CAF Executive Committee Following Fierce Election at Extraordinary General Assembly

Six new members have been elected to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee, marking a significant shift in the leadership structure of African football. The election took place at the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly of CAF, held in Cairo on Wednesday, following the re-election of Patrice Motsepe as CAF President and the renewal of several positions within the executive committee.

The newly appointed members are Faouzi Lekjaa (Morocco), Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania), Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros), Hany Abo Ridha (Egypt), Souleiman Waberi (Djibouti), and Hamidou Djibrilla Hima (Niger). Each of them will serve a four-year term and will now have an active role in shaping the future of football across Africa.

The election was highly competitive, with twelve candidates vying for just six available seats. The candidates campaigned vigorously, emphasizing their vision for African football’s development and progress. The election results reflected the level of competition, with several prominent figures narrowly missing out on the opportunity to join the executive committee.

  • Augustin Senghor (Senegal) – 13 votes
  • Lydia Nsekera (Burundi) – 13 votes
  • Isha Johansen (Sierra Leone) – 7 votes
