Nigerian police have arrested Sunday Kotin, a fugitive from Benin Republic accused of cross-border banditry, arms smuggling, cattle rustling, and drug trafficking. Kotin was captured in Idi Iroko, Ogun State, during a discreet operation led by the Police National Central Bureau of Interpol Nigeria. The arrest followed a formal request from Interpol Benin. Authorities say Kotin fled into Nigeria after members of his criminal network were arrested. Seven of his associates are already on trial in Benin. After his capture, he was questioned by Nigerian officers before being handed over to Interpol officials in Cotonou.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the officers involved and underscored Nigeria’s commitment to regional security. “Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives. We will continue to collaborate with international partners to ensure peace, justice, and security,” he said. The police stressed that the arrest reflects Nigeria’s resolve to combat transnational crime and strengthen cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries.
