Congolese-French rapper Gims, born Gandhi Djuna, was arrested upon arrival in Paris on Wednesday as part of a money laundering investigation, French authorities confirmed. He was taken into custody at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport by the National Judicial Customs Service.
Judges in Paris are probing a complex network of shell companies allegedly set up across multiple countries to evade taxes, issue fake invoices, launder illicit funds, and conceal the origins of money. Investigators are reportedly examining a high-end real estate project in Marrakech promoted by Gims.
Five former drug traffickers from the Paris region, now involved in financial crimes, have already been implicated in the case. Gims, originally from Kinshasa, was France’s top-selling recording artist last year, with millions of albums sold across Europe and Africa.
