Burna Boy Drops Star-Studded Album ‘No Sign of Weakness’ as Afrobeats Global Influence Grows

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has released his much-anticipated album No Sign of Weakness, a star-packed celebration of resilience and creativity. The album, which dropped on Friday, July 11, features collaborations with music legends including Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, American rapper Travis Scott, and breakout country star Shaboozey. The project marks a major moment in Burna Boy’s decade-long journey, evolving from a dream-filled schoolboy who wrote “rock star” as his career goal to one of Africa’s most globally recognized music icons. “No Sign of Weakness is about my journey and how I’ve stayed standing, strong, and relevant despite the challenges,” Burna Boy explained. “Every artist on this project is a rock star in their own right.”

The album follows the success of his Grammy-nominated 2023 release I Told Them…, and adds to a string of achievements for Burna Boy, including his role on the soundtrack of the upcoming Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. As Burna rises, so does the African music industry. Sub-Saharan Africa was the fastest-growing region in global music revenues in 2023, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). The growth is fueled by the success of stars like Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and South Africa’s Tyla, who has taken amapiano to global stages.

While female artists across the continent show strong unity, Burna Boy acknowledged that some male artists remain divided. “We need to learn to turn our differences into strengths. Not just in Nigeria, but across Africa,” said the artist, whose grandfather once managed Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Burna Boy’s global I Told Them World Tour kicked off this week, with North American dates starting in November. He’ll perform on a custom circular stage designed to give fans a 360-degree experience. “I definitely have more fun than anyone else when I’m performing,” he said with a smile. “When I die, I want to go to a stage in Heaven. That’s the only place I truly light up.”
