Shatta Wale Endorses President Mahama, Urges Youth to Back Government for Economic Gains

Ghanaian dancehall icon Shatta Wale has publicly endorsed President John Mahama, calling on young people to support the current administration to improve their financial prospects. The endorsement came during a high-energy performance at the 2025 President’s Cup held at the Accra Sports Stadium, where the artist performed in front of a full-capacity crowd. Midway through his set, Shatta Wale told fans: “From now till the next election, support this government. If you are a youth and want to see money in your pocket, then support this government.”

The comments were met with loud cheers from supporters, but they have also sparked debate online and among political analysts. Critics accused Shatta Wale of using his platform for political gain, with some labeling his remarks as opportunistic. Others urged the youth to focus on party policies rather than celebrity endorsements when making electoral decisions. Following the concert, Shatta Wale took to social media to post a tribute to President Mahama, thanking him for “his unwavering commitment to empowering the youth and creating economic opportunities.”

President Mahama, who began his second non-consecutive term in January 2025, previously served as head of state from 2012 to 2017 after initially taking office following the death of President John Atta Mills. His administration has recently unveiled a series of youth-centered policies focused on entrepreneurship, job creation, and digital innovation. As Ghana prepares for the next round of elections in 2028, Shatta Wale’s endorsement adds to the growing intersection between politics and celebrity influence in the country’s democratic landscape.
