Central African Republic President Strengthens Ties with Russia

Central African Republic (CAR) President Faustin-Archange Touadéra met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss deepening security and economic cooperation between the two nations. Touadéra, on his first visit to Russia since securing a new presidential term in late 2025, emphasized the need for strategic partnerships in energy, education, and humanitarian support. CAR has been grappling with fuel shortages, and Russian aid has been critical in mitigating the crisis. “This new seven-year mandate gives us the opportunity to strengthen our cooperation, already in the field of security, but also for the issues you mentioned, including the economy, education, humanitarian issues, and others,” Touadéra said during the talks.

Since 2018, CAR has expanded its ties with Moscow, with Russia providing military support and economic assistance. For Russia, the Central African Republic represents a strategic presence in Central Africa, offering influence in a region where international competition for resources and security partnerships is intensifying
