Congo PM Makosso Begins Six-Day Visit to Senegal to Boost Bilateral Ties

Republic of Congo Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso has arrived in Dakar for a six-day official visit, from June 10 to 15, aimed at deepening diplomatic, economic, and strategic cooperation with Senegal. The visit comes at the invitation of Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, and includes a series of high-level meetings, a bilateral working session, and talks with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Makosso is accompanied by a large ministerial delegation from Brazzaville, underscoring Congo’s intention to expand partnerships in trade, infrastructure, education, and energy. The agenda also includes joint discussions on regional integration, security cooperation, and climate resilience in West and Central Africa. Officials say the visit marks a renewed effort to revitalize South-South cooperation and strengthen relations between two key African economies, both of which are members of the African Union and active participants in continental free trade initiatives.

The delegation will also visit Senegalese research and development institutions, meet with business leaders, and explore joint investment opportunities in oil and gas, agriculture, and digital transformation. Makosso’s trip is part of Congo’s broader foreign policy push to diversify alliances and enhance inter-African collaboration in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals.
