Egypt’s Tourism Sector Achieves Record-Breaking $14 Billion in Revenue Amid Strong Visitor Growth

Egypt’s tourism industry has reported a record-breaking revenue of over $14 billion for the past eleven months, marking a 7.8% increase from previous figures and the highest earnings ever recorded, according to Mubasher Pulse. This exceptional growth was largely driven by a notable 3.97% rise in tourist arrivals, which reached 14.3 million, alongside a 7.8% increase in tourist nights, which totaled 151.3 million.

One of the major contributors to this success has been Saudi Arabia, with Saudi tourists spending approximately $1.5 billion in Egypt. Saudi Arabia has emerged as one of the top sources of tourists to Egypt, alongside Germany, England, and Russia. Saudi tourists alone accounted for half of all Arab visitors to the country, with 1.5 million arrivals, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. These figures demonstrate the significant role that Gulf countries play in Egypt’s tourism economy, with both nations benefiting from enhanced political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

The continued growth in Egypt’s tourism sector is expected to persist into 2025, particularly if regional geopolitical conditions stabilize, according to industry experts. Sameh Saad, a former advisor to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism, highlighted that the sector has demonstrated consistent positive growth for the second consecutive year, signaling strong momentum.

Influx of tourists in Egypt

Tourism remains a crucial pillar of Egypt’s economy, contributing significantly to the country’s overall financial performance. In the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024/2025, Egypt’s tourism sector grew by 8.2%, playing a vital role in the country’s 3.5% overall economic growth. The tourism industry’s recovery from the pandemic-induced slowdown has been impressive, with both the number of visitors and the length of their stays increasing steadily.

Experts predict that with continued investment in infrastructure, marketing, and regional stability, Egypt’s tourism sector will maintain its upward trajectory in the coming years, further solidifying its position as a leading global travel destination. As the country capitalizes on its rich cultural heritage and world-renowned attractions, including the Pyramids of Giza, the Nile River, and ancient temples, Egypt’s tourism industry is poised to remain a cornerstone of its economic growth and development.
