Ghana has launched an emergency evacuation of its citizens from Iran in response to rising tensions and escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration announced on Monday. Citing the “rapidly deteriorating security situation” in the Middle East, Ghanaian authorities said the decision was made to ensure the safety of nationals abroad. The evacuation operation affects diplomats, students, and professionals living in Iran, with arrangements currently underway for their transport via land routes to safer neighboring countries before repatriation.
The Ghanaian embassy in Tehran has been temporarily closed, and staff are assisting with the logistics of the evacuation. The ministry said it is working closely with international partners to secure safe passage and ensure the timely return of all citizens. Meanwhile, Ghana’s embassy in Tel Aviv remains operational, though at reduced capacity. Nationals living in Israel have been urged to maintain contact with embassy officials and to adhere strictly to safety advisories.
The evacuation comes amid heightened regional instability following recent military exchanges between Israel and Iran, which have raised global concerns about a broader conflict in the Middle East. Ghanaian officials have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding citizens wherever they may be, and are monitoring the situation closely in collaboration with international security agencies.
