Ghana Launches National Cybersecurity Committee to Strengthen Digital Defense

Ghana has inaugurated an 18-member National Joint Cybersecurity Committee (JCC) at Burma Camp to coincide with the launch of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025. The new body will coordinate national efforts to protect Ghana’s digital space by bringing together representatives from the National Security Council, Armed Forces, Police, Immigration, the Bank of Ghana, the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), and other stakeholders.

Operating under the theme “Building a Safe, Informed and Responsible Digital Space,” the initiative is expected to tighten intelligence sharing, streamline response to cyber incidents, and enhance resilience against rising cybercrime threats targeting banks, government systems, and critical infrastructure. President John Mahama, speaking at the inauguration, stressed that cybercrime is a global challenge requiring collective action. He called for greater public education and urged schools, communities, and businesses to integrate cybersecurity awareness into daily practice.

“Building resilience means equipping every Ghanaian from students to business leaders with the knowledge and responsibility to safeguard their digital presence,” the president said. The government has also pledged to work closely with international partners, including Interpol, the African Union, and the United Nations’ cyber initiatives, to strengthen Ghana’s defensive and legal frameworks. National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025 will feature public campaigns, community workshops, and training programs aimed at combating online fraud, data breaches, and misinformation.
