Khaby Lame Named Ambassador for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games

Senegalese social media star Khaby Lame has been appointed an official ambassador for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, marking a major boost to the event’s global visibility ahead of its historic debut in Africa. Organizers say Lame will play a prominent role in key moments of the Games, including the Torch Relay, which is scheduled to arrive in Dakar on September 12. He is also expected to participate in the Youth Olympic Games Torch Tour across Senegal, helping to engage young people nationwide.

With over 160 million followers on TikTok, Lame is one of the world’s most influential digital creators. His appointment is aimed at connecting the Games with younger audiences and promoting participation, inclusion, and African talent on a global stage. “This commitment reflects my desire to support young African talent, in sports and far beyond,” Lame said, adding that the event offers Africa a chance to showcase its potential and inspire a new generation. Born in Mbacké, Lame is also expected to help expand outreach efforts beyond major cities, encouraging youth involvement in communities across the country.

The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled from October 31 to November 13, will host around 2,700 athletes aged 17 and under. Competitions will take place across three sites, including Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, making it the first Olympic event ever held on African soil. Organizers view Lame’s involvement as part of a broader strategy to amplify the Games’ social impact and highlight Africa’s growing influence in global sports and youth development.
