John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, has today began his five-day working visit to South Korea which he is expected to end on March 14, 2026. The West African president’s visit is aimed at strengthening diplomatic, trade and investment relations between the two countries. During the visit, President Mahama is expected to hold bilateral talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and meet the Speaker of the National Assembly, Woo Won-shik. The meetings will focus on expanding cooperation in areas such as industry, infrastructure development, technology and trade. As part of the official itinerary, Mahama will attend a ship christening ceremony at a shipyard operated by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, highlighting Ghana’s interest in maritime development and industrial partnerships.
The Ghanaian leader will also address graduates at Yonsei University in Seoul, one of Asia’s leading universities, where discussions are expected to focus on education cooperation and youth development. In addition, Mahama will meet members of the Ghanaian community living in South Korea and participate in a dinner with business leaders and investors. The engagement is intended to attract new investment into Ghana’s key sectors, including manufacturing, energy and infrastructure. The visit forms part of Ghana’s broader strategy to deepen partnerships with Asian economies and create new opportunities for trade, technology transfer and economic growth.
