The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has made significant strides in its fight against crime, recovering 115 stolen vehicles and rescuing 387 individuals who were victims of kidnapping across the country in January 2025. These efforts were highlighted during a press conference in Abuja, where the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, detailed the outcomes of intensified security operations and enhanced intelligence gathering.
ACP Adejobi explained that the NPF’s success was driven by its nationwide crackdown on criminal activities, which included the arrest of 960 suspects. Among the arrested, 244 were detained for armed robbery, 170 for kidnapping, and 240 for murder. Additionally, a number of suspects faced charges related to rape, cultism, and the illegal possession of firearms.
Despite these successes, Nigeria continues to battle persistent threats posed by terrorism, organized crime, and a general rise in insecurity across various regions. The government and law enforcement agencies have pledged to maintain and strengthen their efforts to curb criminal activities and improve public safety in the months ahead.
The Nigerian Police Force remains committed to using both proactive and reactive measures to ensure that crime rates continue to decline and that citizens can live in safer, more secure environments. As part of this ongoing effort, the NPF is also working closely with other security agencies and international partners to address the complex issues contributing to the country’s security challenges.
