Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for immediate action following the tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State’s Gurara Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of over 80 people and left dozens more injured. The President has instructed the National Orientation Agency to launch a nationwide awareness campaign to educate citizens about the dangers of attempting to recover fuel from damaged tanker trucks.
In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the need for preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future. He urged citizens to exercise caution, particularly when near accident sites involving fuel tankers, which are highly explosive.

The explosion, which occurred on Saturday, is part of a troubling pattern of fuel tanker accidents in Nigeria, which have caused countless fatalities over the years. These accidents, often involving people scavenging for spilled fuel, have become a significant safety concern across the country.
President Tinubu’s directive aims to reduce such tragedies by educating the public on the extreme risks of engaging in such dangerous activities. Authorities are also expected to review safety protocols surrounding fuel transportation to prevent further loss of life.
