Yahya Jammeh Claims of a Return to Gambia Debunked

Henry Gomez, a presidential adviser in The Gambia, has strongly dismissed recent audio statements made by exiled former President Yahya Jammeh, calling them “empty rhetoric with no basis in reality.” Jammeh, who was exiled in 2017 after ruling The Gambia for over two decades, claimed in the recordings that he intends to return to the country and reclaim leadership of his former political party, the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC).

In response to these claims, Gomez reassured the Gambian public that the government remains steadfast in its position against Jammeh’s return. He made it clear that any attempt by the former leader to re-enter the country would result in immediate arrest and prosecution. “Yahya Jammeh’s days of ruling The Gambia are over, and any notion of his return is purely a fantasy,” Gomez asserted.

This response comes as Jammeh continues to make provocative statements from exile, seeking to influence political discourse and stir unrest in The Gambia. Gomez urged citizens to focus on the nation’s development and stability, and not be distracted by Jammeh’s attempts to disrupt the peace that has followed his departure.

The Gambian government’s firm stance signals its commitment to upholding democratic values and maintaining national security, ensuring that any efforts to destabilize the country through Jammeh’s return will not be tolerated.
