Senegal Exceeds 2025 Oil and Gas Production Targets

Senegal has surpassed its 2025 oil and gas production forecasts, cementing its status as an emerging energy producer in Africa, according to the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines. Minister Birame Souleye Diop confirmed that in December 2025, three crude oil cargoes from the Sangomar field were lifted and sold internationally, totaling approximately 2.94 million barrels. Total crude production for the year is now estimated at 36.1 million barrels, exceeding the initial forecast of 30.53 million barrels and the revised June estimate of 34.7 million barrels. Officials attributed the strong output to high reservoir productivity and improved well performance.

In the natural gas sector, progress continued at the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, where three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes totaling around 0.5 million cubic metres were exported in December, marking the highest LNG production since operations began. These results highlight Senegal’s rapidly growing role in Africa’s oil and gas industry, positioning the country as a strategic contributor to the continent’s energy supply and international markets.
