Senegal Challenges AFCON Final Decision at CAS, Seeks Overturn of Morocco Victory

The Senegalese Football Federation has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), contesting the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to award Morocco a 3–0 victory in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The appeal, registered in Lausanne, also names the Royal Moroccan Football Federation as a respondent. Senegal is seeking to have the CAF Appeals Board ruling of March 17 annulled and is asking to be declared the rightful tournament winner.

The dispute arises from a disciplinary case linked to the final held in Morocco, where CAF’s Appeals Committee overturned an earlier ruling and concluded that Senegal had forfeited the match due to regulatory violations. Details of the violations have not been fully disclosed publicly. In its filing, the Senegalese federation requested additional time to submit a comprehensive appeal, arguing that the CAF decision lacked sufficient reasoning.

CAS will now appoint an arbitration panel to hear the case. Proceedings are expected to remain confidential, in line with standard practice, until a final verdict is issued—one that could have significant implications for the outcome of Africa’s flagship football tournament.
