Dozens of Bodies Discovered in Mass Grave in Kenya’s Kericho as Investigation Widens

Authorities in Kenya have uncovered a mass grave in Kericho containing dozens of bodies, including children and foetuses, in a case that is rapidly expanding and raising serious concerns. The investigation began after police received reports over the weekend of a suspected burial site. Initial estimates suggested about 14 bodies, but the scale of the discovery quickly grew. Government pathologist Richard Njoroge confirmed that a single grave contained 32 bodies, being seven adults and 25 children, including neonates and foetuses.

Officials said the remains were found packed in gunny bags, alongside additional body parts recovered at the site. Authorities have since sealed off the area and launched a full-scale investigation, with autopsies expected to determine the causes of death and establish identities. Early indications suggest some of the remains may have originated from hospitals or mortuaries, though this has yet to be confirmed.

The discovery has shocked the nation and comes just three years after the Shakahola Forest Massacre, where hundreds of bodies were uncovered in one of the deadliest cult-related tragedies in recent history. Investigators say the case is still unfolding, with the possibility that more remains could be found as searches continue.
