Senegal’s President Faye Deepens U.S. Ties with Focus on Trade, Aviation, and Development

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye concluded a series of high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., aimed at boosting Senegal’s economic partnerships and international investment footprint. On the sidelines of a formal bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Faye joined leaders from Gabon, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, and Liberia for a working lunch at the White House. The three-day mini-summit, the first under Trump’s second term, emphasized mutual trade, security, and energy interests. President Trump announced plans for an expanded U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit scheduled for September 2025.

President Faye also held strategic talks with senior Boeing executives to strengthen collaboration with national carrier Air Senegal. Discussions focused on acquiring new aircraft, improving pilot training, and creating skilled jobs in Senegal’s aviation sector as part of efforts to modernize the country’s air transport infrastructure. Additionally, Faye met with officials from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to explore expanded cooperation on infrastructure, energy, and water supply projects. Senegal is already a key MCC partner, with previous compacts supporting power sector reforms.

The president also hosted a roundtable with Senegalese economists and development experts at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he outlined his administration’s priorities: youth employment, fiscal responsibility, and long-term investment in education and health. Faye’s Washington visit is part of a broader diplomatic and economic offensive to attract international investment and reposition Senegal as a key West African hub for trade, logistics, and innovation.
