Nollywood Mourns Actor Alexx Ekubo Following Reports of His Death at 40

The Nigerian film industry is mourning actor Alexx Ekubo following widespread reports that the Nollywood star has died at the age of 40 after a prolonged illness. While tributes from colleagues and fans have flooded social media, official confirmation from his family or management remains limited. Ekubo, born Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke, rose to prominence after finishing as first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria competition before building a successful acting career in Nollywood. Over more than a decade in the industry, he became known for starring in romantic comedies and drama films including Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, Champagne, and Gold Diggin.

Several Nollywood actors, including Funke Akindele and Bolanle Ninalowo, publicly shared tributes in his memory, describing him as charismatic, humorous, and widely respected within the industry. Reports circulating in Nigerian media claim the actor had been privately battling cancer and had largely withdrawn from public appearances and social media since late 2024, sparking concern among fans about his health.
