Burkina Faso’s Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Moussa Diallo, has called on the country’s Defence and Security Forces (FDS) to strengthen unity, discipline, vigilance, and operational readiness as military operations against armed groups intensify. Speaking during a three-day visit to the Kaya garrison from July 29 to 31, General Diallo conveyed the appreciation and encouragement of Transitional President and Commander-in-Chief Captain Ibrahim TraorĂ©, urging troops to remain steadfast in efforts to restore security and reclaim territories affected by insurgent violence.
Addressing soldiers and commanders, Diallo emphasized that cohesion among the military, paramilitary units, and other security agencies remains critical to the success of Burkina Faso’s counter-insurgency campaign. He expressed confidence that the armed forces would ultimately defeat the insurgents and restore peace across the country. During the visit, the army chief held meetings with military commanders, Defence and Security Forces personnel, and regional administrative authorities to assess ongoing operations and reinforce coordination on the ground.
General Diallo also visited the Kaya Military Hospital, where he met wounded soldiers receiving treatment. He praised the commitment of both military and civilian healthcare workers and conveyed the nation’s solidarity with injured personnel, wishing them a swift recovery. Burkina Faso has been battling a growing insurgency linked to extremist armed groups since 2015, with violence spreading across much of the country and the wider Sahel region. Thousands of people have been killed, while millions have been displaced, prompting the military-led government to intensify security operations aimed at regaining control of affected areas. The visit to Kaya reflects the military leadership’s continued efforts to boost troop morale and strengthen coordination as the armed forces pursue ongoing operations against insurgent groups.
