China Reaffirms Support for Africa at Hunan Cooperation Forum

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to deepening ties with Africa, pledging continued support for infrastructure, trade, and modernization projects across the continent. The announcement came during high-level bilateral meetings held Tuesday in Changsha, Hunan Province, as part of preparations for the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Wang met with his counterparts from Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, and Angola, emphasizing China’s strategic interest in enhancing collaboration with Africa and promoting shared development.

He assured the African ministers that China remains a firm partner in advancing the interests of the Global South. “China will continue to stand with African nations, promote mutual development, and safeguard the rights of developing countries,” Wang said. In talks with Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Wang reiterated Beijing’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s economic transformation agenda and called for stronger cooperation in trade, digital innovation, and infrastructure.

The discussions also addressed preparations for the next FOCAC summit, expected later this year, where new economic agreements and policy alignments are anticipated.
