Nigeria and Belarus Launch Youth-Focused Agricultural Mechanization Program

Nigeria has officially launched the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanization Program, a transformative partnership with Belarus aimed at modernizing the country’s farming practices and empowering its youth. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu unveiled the initiative on Monday, June 24, 2025, during a ceremony in Abuja, describing it as a cornerstone of his administration’s strategy to ensure food security, reduce unemployment, and revitalize rural livelihoods.

Under the program, Belarus will supply Nigeria with over 500 high-performance tractors, harvesters, and other farming equipment. It will also provide technical training for young Nigerians through specialized agricultural institutes and regional workshops. The initiative, implemented through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), is set to reach all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It includes the creation of agro-service centers where farmers can access modern equipment on a pay-as-you-use basis.

President Tinubu emphasized that the partnership would not only enhance food production and reduce Nigeria’s dependency on imports, but also create a new generation of agripreneurs by equipping youth with practical skills in precision and mechanized agriculture. Belarusian Ambassador to Nigeria, Vyacheslav Bril, hailed the collaboration as a “win-win strategy” and reiterated his country’s commitment to providing long-term technical support, including in areas like irrigation, seed development, and climate-resilient farming. Analysts view the deal as a significant step toward achieving Nigeria’s 2025 agricultural transformation targets and a model for future South-South cooperation in the agricultural sector.
