More than 200 members of the Boko Haram terrorist group—including forcibly conscripted fighters, women, and children—have surrendered to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Bol, Chad’s Lake region, following sustained military offensives and psychological operations. The mass surrender occurred in the Baga Sola area, with a total of 210 individuals voluntarily handing themselves over to Sector 2 of Operation Lake Chad. The group included active combatants and family members who had been living under the insurgents’ control.
Ten assorted firearms were seized during the operation. According to MNJTF officials, the ex-militants confessed to involvement in several violent attacks across Bakatolerom, Barkalam, Litri, and Kaiga Ngbouboun—communities that have experienced repeated Boko Haram assaults. Sector 2 Commander, Major General Moussa Haussa, praised the troops for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Task Force’s commitment to balancing military action with humane treatment. He confirmed that all former fighters will be processed under the ongoing regional Disarmament, Demobilization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DDRR) initiative.
Also present at the event was Brigadier General Saleh Haggar Tidjani, Governor of Chad’s Lake Region, who pledged to accelerate vocational training, psychological counseling, and reintegration programs to help former insurgents transition into peaceful civilian life. The MNJTF—a regional coalition composed of troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin—hailed the development as a strategic victory in its efforts to degrade Boko Haram’s operational capacity. Officials underscored that the growing number of surrenders is evidence of the success of a two-pronged approach that blends military pressure with community outreach and rehabilitation.
