Burkina Faso Secures 13 Billion FCFA for Agricultural Equipment to Boost Hydro-Agricultural Development

Burkina Faso’s transitional government has procured agricultural equipment valued at 13 billion FCFA to strengthen hydro-agricultural infrastructure, as part of its Presidential Initiative for Agricultural Production and the Agro-Pastoral Offensive. The equipment, which was officially handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture by Transitional President Ibrahim Traoré, aims to enhance the country’s agricultural capacity and address water management challenges.

The newly acquired machinery includes key assets such as bulldozers, excavators, compactors, graders, fuel tankers, water tankers, dump trucks, and concrete mixers. These tools are designed to improve water accessibility, enhance land development for agricultural use, and contribute to more efficient agricultural practices.

The National Office of Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Development (ONBAH) and the National Society for Land Development and Rural Equipment (SONATER) will be responsible for the management and operation of the equipment. These agencies will work to expand agricultural land and improve water resource management to meet the growing needs of the sector.

Minister of Agriculture Ismaël Sombié highlighted that this acquisition is a critical step toward achieving food self-sufficiency for the nation. By addressing pressing challenges related to water management and agricultural land development, the government hopes to increase food production and reduce reliance on imports, ensuring long-term sustainability for the country’s agricultural sector.
