Chadian President Mahamat Déby Itno Calls for National Unity and Anti-Corruption Reforms During Eid

Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has called for national unity, integrity, and an intensified fight against corruption, emphasizing the need to build a just and prosperous Chad free from ideological divisions. Delivering his Eid al-Fitr message on Monday, March 31, 2025, Déby addressed the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, urging citizens to uphold republican values, justice, and transparency. He condemned corruption as a major obstacle to Chad’s development and warned that his administration would enforce a zero-tolerance policy against the misappropriation of public resources.

The president also appealed to religious leaders and the Muslim community to foster peace, strengthen social cohesion, and avoid doctrinal disputes that could divide the nation. “We must reject division and work together for a Chad rooted in ethical values, integrity, and respect for republican principles,” Déby stated. He further criticized individuals and groups exploiting the country’s wealth without accountability, calling for greater responsibility among public officials and citizens alike.

“As leaders and as a people, we must fight for a better future, where justice and good governance prevail,” he declared. His message comes as Chad navigates a critical transition period, with growing demands for political and economic reforms. The call for national unity and anti-corruption measures aligns with his broader agenda of ensuring stability and equitable growth across the country.
